Public schools struggle to feel like they are doing something to help a young person and their family when they are caught in possession or using drugs. Typically, students are simply suspended which offers nothing to the teen, their family and the school loses out on attendance credit/monies.
After working with so many schools for over 15+ years, I wanted to help be a part of the solution and create an alternative to just suspending a teen (I do understand that suspension might still need to happen).
While this is should not be considered “treatment” or “counseling” which is recommended for any teen with any history of drug use, this page is created as a resource for schools to help their students and the student’s family when they have been busted using drugs. This page is created to offer more than just a suspension. This project will get the teen and their family to really reflect and dialogue about this issue and my hope is that it decreases denial and increases motivation for change (Jon Daily, LCSW, CADC II).
