The Phase 2 Class

While the Phase 1 class empowers parents with understanding the illness of addiction and providing a structure of accountability to help their child get sober, Phase II illuminates the power and the importance of the parent's role in focusing on their relationship with their child. Parents will learn to better understand how their child is struggling with their own intra/inter personal conflicts as a teen/young adult, as well as, the fear & grief of letting go of their relationship to intoxication and “drug culture.” Meanwhile, they no longer have drug dealers and intoxication to turn to for soothing, support and the ever important sense of "feeling felt."  Finally parents will understand the importance of putting aside their own frustrations and accessing available resources so that they can warmly & consistently support their child through this difficult time, nurturing their emotional & psychological growth.

Contents of the class:

Understanding our own "Hidden & Blind" spots within our self: Staying open to seeing ourselves.

Understanding the role of "Attachment" in our own history.

How parents nurture or hinder aspects of the developing "self"

Negotiating relationships: “showing up” instead of complying or avoiding

Nature's "Call Response"- Parents, Drug Dealers, Drug Culture, Therapists, 12-Step Fellowship: Who's Responding to the Call?

The need to "Feel Felt"-- "I have the experience that my parents get me"

American Culture: Solution focused, achievement, production oriented parenting vs. relational parenting

Slowing down and creating space for your child to grow.

We are asking our child to continuing on in their emotional, psychological and relational development, yet we have to continue on in our own development.

We are not powerless - We have a powerful role
